As there are many oils for different purposes, like moisturising and sealing oils, there are many different ways to use them. Here you can read 4 different ways to use your hair oils.
Most shampoos contain harsh, synthetic surfactants that remove dirt, impurities, and oils from your hair. These surfactants are usually so “efficient” that they strip the natural hair oil produced by your sebaceous glands. This can cause the hair to become weak, dry, and prone to breakage.
Therefore, before washing you hair, doing a pre-shampooing oil treatment helps to maintain your natural sebum in your hair and the result keeps your hair stronger and healthier.
Before washing your hair, apply a small handful of oil through your scalp and hair. At the same time you can give yourself a head massage and stimulate blood flow to your scalp and hair follicles.
Which oil to use?
To get the maximum benefits of pre-shampooing, choose an oil that is able to penetrate the hair, such as olive oil or coconut oil. However, the penetration is a slow process, to give the best protection, apply the oil for overnight and shampoo it during your morning shower. If you hair feels softer and easier to detangle afterwards, the treatment has worked well. From our products Curly oil fits perfectly for pre-shampooing.
Every curly hair’s problem is the fricking frizz, right!? 😤 We dream that our curls would stay as fabulous and defined as they look when wet. Well I’m afraid that won't happen! When the water enters to our hair, it weakens the hydrogen bonds in our hair, which then attracts the molecules of our hair protein structure. This makes the protein structure to become more fluid and heavy creating elongated curls. When the hair dries, the evaporation of the water makes more hydrogen bonds available to lock back into its place with the hair protein and the hair regains its rigidity. This usually happens quickly and unorganized, resulting in not aligned and frizzy curls. If you held the strands in a form when drying, like when using flexirods, it helps with the hair alignment and prevents frizz.
As well, sealing your hair with hair oils can help to further lock the hair in place by preventing moisture/humidity from disturbing the careful formed curls. After washing your hair, apply few drops of hair oil to towel-damp hair. Apply the oil mainly to the end of your hair and while applying, try to align the strands in a defined way.
Which oil to use?
The oil you use to control frizz, depends on your hair type, whether you have wavy hair, curly hair or kinky hair. However, if you have fine hair make sure you don’t use too heavy oil that weighs your curls down. For all hair types argan oil is known to be a good frizz controller.
For me styling works the same way as frizz control. Apply hair oil to towel-damp hair and style your hair in your desired way. This way you can tame all your flyaways! 🙏 Again use any oil that is suitable for you hair type.
Hot oil treatment
Hot oil treatment is a perfect treat when your hair is starting to break or is feeling very dry. To heat your oil before applying makes the treatment more efficient. Heat opens the cuticle of the hair and allows moisture to penetrate the hair shaft.
- Warm the oil by placing to oil bottle into a hot water. Might be easier just to boil water and place it in a mug and then place the bottle into the mug as well. Don’t heat the oil in the microwave because it will lose the nutrients!
- Separate your hair into 4-6 sections to make the oil distribution easier.
- Before applying the oil, make sure it is not too hot by testing a drop in your wrist.
- Massage the oil into your scalp and coat well all your ends.
- Finally, cover your hair with a shower cap and let the oil treatment sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes. For maximum benefits, let it sit on your hair through the night and wash it off in the next morning.
